What To Pack For A Stress-Free Road Trip In The UK

Planning a road trip in the UK is a really exciting thing to do - there’s just so much to see, and if it’s your home country, it’s highly unlikely you’ve really explored it before. To really make the most of your adventure, you’ll want to make sure you’ve packed everything you need to make the trip fun, easy, and stress-free, and with that in mind, here are some of the essential things you’ll need to take with you to make sure that happens; read on to find out more.

Essential Documents And Maps

Before you start off on your journey, you’ve got to make sure you’ve got all the important paperwork you need with you - although you probably won’t need to actually show any of it to anyone, it’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it, so packing it is a wise thing to do.

What do we mean by important paperwork? Well, a few examples include your driving licence, the rental agreement for your Manchester motorhome hire or any other vehicle you might have rented for the trip, maps and navigation tools (yes, paper maps might be seen as quite old-fashioned these days, but what would happen if your sat nav’s battery ran out or there was no signal for your phone? It’s useful to have a map with you just in case), and your insurance documents.

Snacks And Drinks

Once you’re prepared when it comes to paperwork, the next thing to think about is food and drink - you’ve got to have plenty with you so you can keep comfortable while you’re driving (and the same for your passengers), and if you’ve got enough to eat and drink, you’ll have to stop less, which saves time and means you get to see more in the end.

It’s wise to have a cooler with plenty of drinks in it as dehydration can hit fast and cause all kinds of nasty issues. Water is the best thing to have in the cooler, but having a few more ‘fun’ drinks like soft drinks or iced coffee can be a nice change and keep everyone happy. As for snacks, things that are easy to eat and don’t cause a lot of mess would be ideal, so sandwiches, crisps, and fruit are always good (not to mention the odd bar of chocolate here and there as well!).

Overnight Essentials

If you’re renting a motorhome, you’re going to need to bring some overnight essentials with you, as most rental companies don’t provide them, and if you forget, you’re going to be cold and uncomfortable, and you might even end up checking into a hotel, which defeats the object of the trip (and costs more money).

Great things to take include sleeping bags (duvets are nice, but they take up a lot of space, so a sleeping bag can be a good alternative) and pillows for comfort, as well as towels and toiletries like toothpaste and soap - and try to be as sustainable as possible. If you’ve got all that, you’ve really got everything you need.
