When it comes to saving money and inflation has gone on, as a family of 7 that is something that we have done for quite a few years in general.
The main thing we do to help this is that my husband has always been the one who does the main grocery shopping and such. We buy all our meats and cheeses in bulk, as well as spaghetti sauces, pastas, etc. We tend to buy canned goods, sauces, and pastas at our local Aldi's. And then the meats and cheeses at Walmart along with everything else bought each month. We do that as I can easily freeze all the meats not being used/cooked that week and make it at a later time. It makes things a lot easier as he has always done this with our foods for many years now, even before we had a bigger family.
Something that I think will help you as a shopper and parent, is using the SavingsCalculator.org that uses the USD for figuring out the compound savings. There is also a feature on their website that allows you to create a growth table of savings over time.
There are so many different varieties of calculators on their website to choose from, so be sure to check it out for yourself. It has information for savings, goals, CDs, college and retirement.
