Do you love Meryl Streep and want to see an amazing display of a lot of Disney characters into one musical like movie?
I have been promoting this movie for Disney through the last few months before it went to theatres and have been very anxiously awaiting for this one to come to blu-ray. I absolutely love Meryl Streep and her acting, and in this one she does an awesome job playing the witch of the woods! This is a movie with a plot, but it has a lot of musical themes to it as the characters sing quite a bit of their lines which is pretty awesome.
The witch put a curse on the baker's home when he was just a baby because his mother wanted lots of greens for food and took the witch's foods from her garden and made her very angry, which prevented him from having a child that he and his wife so much long for, but the witch has a task that could break that curse and allow them to have a child of their own. The baker's mother and father had to give the witch their other child of whom the baker had not known existed, and she is known as Rapunzel. They have to bring the witch 4 items before midnight within 3 days or else it would not happen. So, they go off into the woods to find those 4 items for the witch, and have a short time to find them all. Can they find it all?
The boy named Jack who has the cow that the baker needs but it won't produce milk, is played by Danield Huttlestone. He does a really good job with his role and I enjoyed watching his acting and singing throughout the movie. He's very energized in his role.
Johnny Depp doesn't have a huge role in the movie, but he does appear a few times and plays the wolf in the woods. Unlike what some critics may have said about his role with Cinderella, I have watched it now twice and have seen nothing inappropriate occur nor did I hear or it appear to be something like that. He ends up being "that" wolf that is in the grandmother's bed at Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother's house where she needs to be.
Cinderella is played by Anna Kendrick and she does a fabulous job in her role. The baker's wife runs into her in the woods and befriends her per-say, and asks for one of her golden slippers as she needs it to give to the witch but she did not give one to her at that time. Cinderella had to finish her chores before she could try going to the ball. Cinderella kept running from the prince and some did not understand why, but she sure did!
Little Red Riding Hood is played by Lilla Crawford and she does a very good job with her role, and is fun to watch interact with the wolf and being in the woods by herself as a child. She has something that the baker and his wife need as well, and that is her red cape that she's wearing on her back. Of course she doesn't give it up easily at all, and causes a scene.
Rapunzel is played by Mackenzie Mauzy and does a really nice job with her role. I forgot how truly long Rapunzel's hair was until I saw this movie. The witch plays her mother who has a grudge on anyone loving her more than she can. It's like she was jealous of her daughter for finding a prince to love her. The witch tried to keep her locked away as if she was a child, and Rapunzel wants to be in the world not the house.
The witch thinks she still needs to shield her from the world, so that she will not get hurt in anyway. Rapunzel's prince got hurt no thanks to the witch. The witch cut her hair and said that no one will ever see her again, and that she must stay a child. Below is what the witch looks like after the baker and his wife brought her all of the items that were needed, before midnight. She is now back to being beautiful, but she happens to lose her power.
I'm glad you explained what the story is about because that actually sounds super interesting. I didn't realize it was a musical though!
