Enjoy Summer at Kings Dominion in Virginia

*Disclaimer - I received complimentary tickets for park day passes and parking, in return for my experience at Kings Dominion

Are you looking for a family friendly amusement park in Virginia to head to this summer?

I have LOVED Kings Dominion for many many years, because I am originally from VA so my family and I went there during the summer often when I was a kid/teenager. So, when I found out that I could work with Kings Dominion for our vacation trip for a day, I was absolutely thrilled!! I was so excited to be able to take my kids with us to go; and we all had a great day full of fun! You can check out their rides that they have HERE before you go on a visit.

They got to see and enjoy some of the things I rode when I was younger, as well as new attractions they have there and of course the water park!

This year happens to be Kings Dominion's 50th Anniversary, so that is why you may see signs like this one all around the park as you are there and in the gift shops as well. I have been to Kings Dominion SO many times as a kid and teenager, so I was thrilled to take some of my kids there to have fun.

Another thing going on as part of the 50th anniversary celebration at Kings Dominion, they are having an entertainment show going on known as the laser show which sounded really awesome!

Another celebration entertainment item they have going on is Nighttime Spectacle, as well as Roaming Street Party. All of these sound like a lot of fun for the family to enjoy together during your visit there!

I was hoping to catch the laser show, but we weren't able to stay for as the kids were really tired by the time we were done. But make sure you stay til dark to check one of these things out!

As we were walking through the parking lot, this is the view we saw - big roller coaster!

We got to the park shortly after it opened and it was a perfect day to be there too - there was virtually NO lines to speak of for 98% of the rides that both we and the kids wanted to ride, which was excellent and usually is not the case unless it is a slow day, so we were thrilled.

We rode what use to be known as the "Rebel Yell" which was my sister and I's favorite ride as kids, so I knew that it was likely my kids would also love it, and I was right - they did! It's an older wooden type of roller coaster but is pretty smooth and is a nice/fun one for the family to enjoy.

My younger kids absolutely LOVED hanging out and going on the Lucy's Crabbie Cabbies, which is a kids bumper cars - they had to of gone on this one at least 10 times or so throughout the day, and of course had an absolute blast doing so.

My sister and I got to ride some of the roller coasters within 5 minutes or so of walking through to the line to get onto the ride, which was really nice especially in the heat. We had kept a close eye on the weather and determined the day we went would be the better day to go, since there was not to be any rain until that evening, and it worked well too.

I wanted so much to love the Twisted Timbers coaster, but it was just too jerky for me personally. But, I think it is a great thrill ride for Kings Dominion as a whole. This is one that was not around when I was a teenager and was here last.

The park had some good places to choose from for lunch, and we ended up getting some chicken and fries which were good for kids and I with honey mustard, and my dad got some brisket which he said was good, and sodas. They also had some Dippin Dots throughout the park which I have always been a big fan of. I decided to get the banana split flavor and got regular size.

We had a blast and my kids absolutely loved that Kings Dominion had a specific kids area just for their ages of rides too which was great, called the Planet Snoopy and they rode quite a bit of stuff. They are all 10 and under in ages, so if your kids need rides to go on this is definitely the place to go.

It was very hot this past week in Virginia while we were there and we wanted to go cool off after riding all of the rides we wanted to, so we headed to the water park section of the park known as Soak City, which is a pretty nice sized water park to play at and enjoy for the whole family. There are water slides for older kids and adults, a wave pool for those who are better at swimming, and a splash type park with small stuff for the younger kids.

We had a lot of fun at Soak City and got the chance to finally cool off before going back to ride a few other rides we missed before heading back to our hotel. We stayed until like 4 or 5pm I think it was.

I always enjoy the log flume when we go to amusement parks regardless of where and definitely enjoyed it at Kings Dominion as well. I got a small picture as we walked by it, but we did ride it!
