Pacifier Pros and Cons

Pacifiers can be a tricky thing, because some babies hate them and some love them.

Our son absolutely loves the Wubbanubb that's the puppy with a green soothie pacifier connected to it. I bought it for him on Amazon before he was born, so I had it for him. I took our kids pacifiers away at 7 months old, but they didn't use it very often really so it wasn't a big deal.

He loves to have something to suck on all the time, and if he's already eaten then it's a pacifier. The pacifiers that he likes are soothie pacifiers - the one that is a Wubbanubb and a vanilla scented one, as well as MAM Baby ones, and Tommee Tippee ones that are for 0 - 6 months.

Some people say that babies can have nipple confusion if they breastfeed and you offer a pacifier, but that's not the case for our son. He nurses all day, has a night bottle of my milk, and uses a pacifier as he wants to. I think that the soothie pacifiers that are vanilla scented help calm or comfort baby. I'm not sure if it tastes like vanilla or not, but he sure enjoys it.

  1. I never used a binkie with either of my kids. There are always pros and cons to using things like this, but I think it's totally up to the parents to figure out what works for them.

  2. We didn't breastfeed, and my son never took to a pacifier, but these are so cute! I got one for my cousin who does bf and her daughter really took to it and had no problems.

  3. My oldest only used a binkie until he was about 6 months old. It was even less time for my youngest. I'd be interested in hearing why you take binkies away at 7 months.

  4. Neither of my kids took to one for some reason. They preferred their fingers, lol, but this is a cute one that's easy to find!

  5. I just ordered him another Wubbanubb that's a frog. He loves it.Reason I take pacifiers away at 7 months is they are talking somewhat at 1 yr old and no need for a pacifier if they can talk. That's just my personal opinion for our kids and it worked out fine with first 2 kids. Our 3rd is only 2 months old tomorrow, so he has a ways to go.

  6. I nursed both of my children and they both had pacifiers. I bought MAM for both of them and there were never any problems.

  7. My boys both liked pacifiers when they were just born, but quickly got tired of them. They both weaned themselves by six months and I am so grateful because I know people with three and four year olds that they can't get to stop using them!

  9. Great tips!! Our son was born with a cleft palate, so he didn't have any suction. Didn't have to worry about the pros and cons back then!! :)
